Jeri Milan, Esq.
Founding Attorney
Admitted in New York State, U.S. District Court for the Eastern and Southern District of New York, and U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit
Jeri Milan is the founding and managing attorney at The Journey Law Group, P.C. Prior to building a firm, she was an associate attorney at The Law Office of Julia R. Binger and was an immigration paralegal for the firm for over 13 years. Jeri earned her Juris Doctor degree from the City University of New York Law School and a bachelor's degree in cultural studies with a concentration in philosophy from SUNY Empire State College and De La Salle University in Manila, Philippines.
Jeri's immigration law career was influenced by her late father's 30-year career as a goodwill ambassador for the Philippine government, having served Filipino migrant workers (OFWs) in 33 countries. Jeri grew up in Tondo, Manila, Philippines, and immigrated to the United States in 2007.
Understanding what it means to be an immigrant in the United States, Jeri believes in a holistic approach to tackling the country's broken system of immigration laws. To that end, Jeri studied Forced Migration Law in Sydney, Australia to learn international asylum and refugee protection laws. She also interned for the U.S. Department of Labor Office of the Solicitor to uncover how labor laws disproportionately impact migrant and temporary workers. As a student attorney at CUNY Law's Human Rights and Gender Justice Clinic, Jeri initiated a FOIA project with the Center for Constitutional Rights and immigrant rights groups Immigrant Defense Project and Mijente that aimed to enhance public understanding of how data and technology help locate, track, and target non-U.S. citizens for detention and deportation, and highlighted the concomitant constitutional deprivation and human rights abuses that ensue.
As an immigrant justice advocate, Jeri lent her voice to the country's undocumented population by writing two legal essays that won national and state awards. Her essay entitled, “Gideon in Removal Proceedings: Towards A Categorical Right to an Attorney for Indigent Immigrants” won the Judge Bernard S. Meyer Scholarship for Excellence in Legal Advocacy and Writing, awarded by the New York Bar Foundation in 2019. Likewise, her essay entitled, “A Constitutional Argument for an Independent Immigration Court” won the American Immigration Lawyers Association's Inaugural Student Writing Scholarship, a national competition for law students interested in immigration law.
While in law school, Jeri also served as a judicial intern for the Hon. Margo K. Brodie, Chief Judge of the Eastern District of New York, and for the Hon. Doris M. Gonzalez, Administrative Judge of the Bronx Supreme Court Civil Term. Jeri is also an adjunct professor and teaches organizational ethics at Manhattan University in New York City in Riverdale.
Jeri is a powerhouse of purpose — a sharp-minded immigration attorney, fierce advocate, and soulful strategist who blends law, ethics, and heart. From courtrooms to classrooms, from Tondo to New York, Jeri moves with precision and conviction. She's a builder — of systems, of futures, of hope.
Whether she's drafting motions at midnight, mentoring the next generation, or fundraising for scholars back home, her work is always rooted in justice, dignity, and impact. With her deep roots in philosophy and ethics, she doesn't just fight for the law — she fights for what's right.
She's the kind of person who sees bureaucracy and responds with a workflow, sees suffering and responds with a plan, sees complexity and responds with clarity. A harmonizer of logic and compassion, she's the quiet storm behind life-changing outcomes.
Jeri is a cultural arts and museum enthusiast.
